How to pick a good shadowing source
Not every source you have the right to use is a good source for shadowing. Three things make the difference.
1. One speaker, please
Two-host podcasts are great for listening, terrible for shadowing — your ear has to keep switching, and your mouth never settles. Pick a monologue (lectures, audiobooks, solo podcasts).
2. Find the speaker you want to sound like
Shadowing copies prosody, not just sounds. Pick someone whose pace, register, and rhythm match the kind of speaker you’d like to be — formal news anchor, casual YouTuber, lecture-room academic, whoever.
3. Slightly hard is right
If you can repeat the segment after listening once, it’s too easy. If you can’t repeat it after three listens, it’s too hard. The sweet spot is the second or third listen.
